Welcome Freshmen

This year SGA is welcoming the incoming freshmen class to Drury University in a different way. We are inviting all freshmen to take their first step into the world of campus activism by applying to participating in a six-week internship program. Students will have the opportunity to integrate themselves into an active and progressive elected body of student representatives as the work to make the university community a better place.

Take your first step into the world campus activism by applying for the Student Government Freshmen Internship Program!

What is SGA and what does it do?

The Student Government Association of Drury University has been established as the organization through which the values and ideals of Drury University students are implemented. The structure of the Student Government Association is designed to safeguard and enhance key areas that directly contribute to the student experience and to the Drury community. We will constantly strive to enhance the student experience within the Drury Community by actively listening and interacting with those whom we represent. On a practical level SGA is responsible for communicating with the faculty, staff, and administration of the university. Together we strive to make Drury a place where students can gain the best education while growing in a fun and exciting environment. SGA is also responsible for distributing student fees to the more than forty active student organizations on campus.

SGA is led by visionary elected officials and skilled appointed officers. The Executive council consists of the President, Vice President of Student Affaris, VP of Academic Affaris, VP of Finance, CP of Communications, VP of Technology and VP of Diversity. The Student Senate consists of seven elected representatives from the the Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior classes. 5th year Seniors and evening school students are represented with two senators for each demographic. Elections are held once a year at the end of the fall semester.

SGA meets on a weekly basis. General Assembly is the official bi-weekly meeting of senators where official minutes are recorded and resolutions are voted upon. The five SGA committees, of which are chaired by the Vice Presidents, meet on the off-weeks. The committees focus on several different projects throughout the year. Through a multitude of methods SGA is constantly striving to make the university a better place while providing its fellow student organizations with the resources needed to make a positive impact on their members and to those that they reach.

How To Apply

The application process will be simple yet comprehensive enough to allow students to express their interests in student activism, community engagement, and the vision they have for their Drury experience. Applications will be available online in the fall. It will include a short questionnaire followed by a couple of prompts for short essays.

Qualifications

Participants must be incoming freshmen interested in making a difference in the community where they will be spending the next four to five years growing and learning. SGA firmly believes that an important part of the Drury experience comes outside of the classroom. Students must commit themselves to applying what they learn inside the classroom in activities and innovative projects within the student organizations that they are a part of at Drury or in the community. Note: You do not have to complete this internship to be elected to SGA.

We're still putting together the rest of the details and we'll have them posted soon. This is a great opportunity to get involved on campus and become a leader. It will last six weeks. You'll have more opportunities to learn about the program before applying. See you in the fall!
