Student Government Association

Freshman Internship Program

What is SGA?

The Student Government Association (SGA) of Drury University has been established as the organization through which the values and ideals of Drury University students are implemented.  The structure of SGA is designed to safeguard and enhance key areas that directly contribute to the student experience and to the Drury community.  We will constantly strive to enhance the student experience within the Drury community by actively listening and interacting with those whom we represent.  On a practical level SGA is responsible for communicating with the faculty, staff, and administration of the university.  Together we strive to make Drury a place where students can gain the best education while growing in a fun and exciting environment.  SGA is also responsible for distributing student fees to the more than forty active student organizations on campus.

Program Goals

The Freshman Internship Program is designed to:

·         Familiarize participants with roles and responsibilities of SGA

·         Give hands on leadership experience through planning and execution of a campus initiative

·         Allow participants to practice bridging ideas between the student community and faculty, staff and administration

Program Contents & Benefits

Students will be asked and encouraged to perform a variety of tasks in order to fulfill the above mentioned goals.  The program will begin on September 23rd and culminate on SGA’s Student Activism Week October 11th-15th.  Regular meetings with program participants and members of SGA will be required.  Participants will be encouraged to attend and observe all official SGA meetings which are held every Thursday at 8 PM.  Students will gain valuable leadership experience and knowledge that will give them an edge in elections at the end of the semester.  Participants who complete the program will be eligible for an extrinsic reward which is to be determined.
